Defense leads Hillman to third straight win

INDIAN RIVER–Another stellar defensive effort resulted in another win for the Hillman boys basketball team.

Hillman defeated Indian River Inland Lakes 58-39 on Tuesday after limiting the Bulldogs to less than 10 points in each of the first three quarters.

The Bulldogs hit two three pointers in the first two minutes of the game, but trailed Hillman 24-12 at halftime. The Tigers (3-0, 2-0 North Star League) outscored Inland Lakes 20-9 in the third quarter and led 44-21.

Inland Lakes outscored Hillman 18-14 in the final quarter.

Jared Juergens led Hillman with 19 points and seven rebounds and Billy Kolcan added 11 points. Brandon Banks added nine points and Kory Henigan chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds.

“We locked them down for three quarters. Defensively, we were stifling in the first two quarters,” Hillman coach Eric Muszynski said. “Defensively, we were on the ball tonight and did some really good things.”

Hillman will host Cedarville at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in its first home game of the year.

Hillman’s JV team fell to Inland Lakes 43-31. Isaac Morrison led Hillman with 11 points.

Oscoda 53, Au Gres 46

AU GRES–The Oscoda boys basketball team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 53-46 win over Au Gres on Monday.

Grant Huebel led Oscoda with 16 points, Owen Franklin added 15 points and Brayden Mallak had 12 points.

Oscoda will play at Tawas on Thursday.
