Central Lake 51,

Onaway 30

CENTRAL LAKE — The Onaway girls basketball team has struggled to find its offensive rhythm early on in the season. The trend continued Wednesday night as the Cardinals fell to Central Lake by a final score of 51-30.

Onaway’s defense was strong in the first half as the Cardinals trailed by five at the break, but a big third quarter from the Trojans proved to be the difference as they outscored Onaway 16-7 to take a commanding 24 point lead into the fourth quarter and cruised to a big victory.

“We struggled creating offense. We just can’t make a jump shot right now and haven’t been able to get much going offensively,” Onaway head coach John George said. “I’m happy we got a break now so we can continue to work on some things.”

Onaway was led by Calley Selke who scored 13 points in the loss.

The Cardinals fall to 1-3 overall on the season and will be back in action after the new year on January 3, when they travel to Pickford.
