Local runners earn all-state honors at XC finals

BROOKLYN — Several local runners overcame rainy conditions to earn all-state honors at the lower peninsula cross country finals at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday.

Alpena’s Aden Smith earned all-state honors for the second year in a row, finishing 22nd in the Division boys race in 15:49.1. The race was delayed multiple times by thunder and lightning.

Behind him, his teammates Josh Smith and Drew Seabase finished 65th and 101st respectively in 16:22.1 and 16:35.8. Seabase’s finish was third best among freshmen.

Alpena’s Maddy Boyd finished 60th in the Division 1 girls race, crossing the line in 18:58.6.

Morgan Baller led Rogers City’s girls team in the Division 4 girls race with an all-state finish. Baller was 25th and finished in 20:03.1. Her teammates and their finishes were: Jenna Kuznicki (171st, 23:11.2); Linnea Hentkowski (205th, 24:17.5); Cheyenne Bober (206th, 24:19.1); Kyley LaFleche (220th, 25:15)’ Brooklyn Bober (237th, 28:20.4) and Madison Tulgestka (238th, 28:52).

Fairview’s Tylor Ross earned all-state honors in the Division 4 boys race, finishing fourth in 16:33.4. His teammate Andrew Hager was 74th and finished in 17:58.3.

In the Division 3 boys race, Oscoda’s Jonas Berenkowski finished 163rd in 18:13.1
