Ciarkowski rallies Posen past Onaway
ONAWAY–Brooke Ciarkowski made a pair of clutch free throws in the closing seconds to rally the Posen girls basketball team past Onaway, 53-51 on Tuesday.
Onaway led 37-36 after three quarters, but the Vikings rallied in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 17-14.
“We were behind a good portion of the game and we made some key baskets and got some key defensive stops,” Posen coach Karl Momrik said. “Give Onaway all the credit, they played hard.”
Ciarkowski led Posen with 16 points and Riley Krajniak added 12. Kennedy Crawford paced Onaway with 17 points.
Posen plays at Pickford on Thursday.
Posen’s JV team defeated Onaway 45-42. Lizzy Romel led the Vikings with 18 points and Makayla Kamyszek added 16.
Joburg 42, Fairview 13
FAIRVIEW–The Fairview girls basketball team took it on the chin in its season opener, losing to Johannesburg-Lewiston 42-13 on Tuesday.
Gretchen Ford was one of two players to score five points for the Eagles.
Brooke McKinney had 11 points for Joburg and Alicia Korff added 10 points.
Fairview hosts Rogers City on Friday.
