ACC basketball teams drop weekend games at MCC
MUSKEGON — The Alpena Community College men’s basketball team suffered their third consecutive defeat to open the season.
The Lumberjacks traveled to Muskegon Community College and lost by a final score of 93-69 on Saturday.
Alpena was led by Jameson Pierrelus who had 21 points. Michael Stuart added 10 points. Dylan Tucker ended the night with 15 points. Pierrelus also ripped down 12 rebounds to record a double-double. Demarcion Chilton chipped in with nine rebounds in the losing effort.
“Muskegon was much more aggressive on the offense and defensive boards. We cannot afford to give up second and third chances when they miss a shot,” ACC head coach Mark Jacobs said. “We are a good team. We are very young right now so we are going to have some growing pains. We’ve got two weeks until our next game to work on our areas of weakness. It’s early and we will be alright.”
The Lumberjacks will get some much needed rest after playing three games in six days and traveling over 1,300 miles to start the season.
The ACC women’s basketball team took another tough loss on Saturday, losing 97-33 to Muskegon.
Sam Szymanski led ACC (0-3) with nine points, Jasmyn Schultz had eight and Kailee Hunt and Morgan Allen each added six.
“We played hard. In the second half, we played better,” ACC coach Bobby Allen said. “We’re improving with every game we play, but we’ve got to play with the competition.”
ACC returns to action on Nov. 28 on the road against the Lake Superior State JV team.
