Lumerjacks XC team finishes regular season strong
MUSKEGON — The Alpena Community College Cross-Country wrapped up its regular season Friday with a strong finish at Muskegon Community College. The team now begins to prepare for their regional meet to be held in Lansing on October 28th.
For the Lumberjacks, five runners hit career bests while two more hit season bests for the 8K race.
“We had an outstanding race today,” ACC coach Mark Jacobs said. “Our top three continue to run well, we now need to get our number four and five guys to close the gap before regionals. One of our top runners (Isaac Cross) injured his ankle today and we were still able to finish ahead of Mott for the first time in team history. That speaks highly of this group of guys, they step up when needed.”
Jonathon Pischner (Charlevoix) led the Lumberjacks with a season best time of 28:16. Pischner was followed by Oliver Rice (Hale) who ran a career best 28:37. Rice was followed Kolin Ghidoni (Alpena) 29:20, Austin Enns (Hart) 30:43 and Levi Goebel (Alpena) who ran a :25 second career best time of 31:37. Rounding out the team were Dallin Toth (Alpena) 33:33, Cross (Alpena) 33:45, Sheldon Elkie (Hillman) 34:03, Evan LeTourneau (Alpena) 34:34 and Andrew Grabiel (Alpena) 36:50.
Other local athletes competing at Muskegon were Tellis Donajowski (Saginaw Valley University) 27:57 and Ryan Wirgau (Spring Arbor) 31:48.
