Alpena Community College wraps up solid cross country season
The Alpena Community College cross country team finished another outstanding season Saturday at its regional meet in Lansing. Out of 17 teams from Regions 12 and 13, the Lumberjacks finished 8th overall.
“All I ever ask my guys is to give 100% and leave it all on the course” ACC coach Mark Jacobs said. “That’s exactly what they did today.”
Six Lumberjacks ran career bests and one ran a season best during the brisk fall day. Jonathon Pischner (Charlevoix) ended his Lumberjack career by finishing as top runner for the second year in a row. Pischner ran a season best 28:05 on the 8K course. Following Pischner was Oliver Rice (Hale) who ran a 28.41. Kolin Ghidoni (Alpena) ran a career best by 30 seconds, finishing 3rd for Alpena with a time of 28:47.
“Having three guys run under 29 minutes is incredible. These guys came ready to run today,” Jacobs said.
Rounding out the top team were Austin Enns (Hart) 31:03, Isaac Cross (Alpena) 31:04, Levi Goebel (Alpena) 31:36, Dallin Toth (Alpena) 32:45, Sheldon Elkie (Hillman) 33:03, Evan LeTourneau (Alpena) 33:13 and Andrew Grabiel (Alpena) 36:36.
Goebel, Toth, Elkie, LeTourneau and Grabiel all ran career bests.
“I said that my last year’s team was one of those once in a lifetime teams, but this team is equal in every way. I’m a lucky man to be able to work with so many outstanding young men.” Jacobs said.
