Alcona clinches playoff spot; Hillman tops Oscoda to continue win streak
BURTON–The Alcona football team is headed back to the playoffs.
Tim and Jack Hutchinson rushed for three touchdowns each as the Tigers defeated Burton-Atherton 60-16 on Friday.
The win gives Alcona (6-1) the sixth win it needs to qualify for the playoffs and will return Alcona to the postseason for the fifth time in six years.
Tim Hutchinson rushed for 158 yards on eight carries and three touchdowns while Jack Hutchinson added 129 yards on seven carries with 3 touchdowns.
Kyle Haeger added 68 yards on 11 carries.
Alcona plays at Lake City on Friday.
W-P 50, Rogers City 13
WHITTEMORE–Ridge Schutte ran all over the Rogers City football team on Friday.
The Whittemore-Prescott running back ran for four touchdowns as the Cardinals defeated Rogers City 50-13 at Whittemore-Prescott High School.
Schutte got going early in the first quarter with a one-yard touchdown and after a Whittemore fumble recovery, he scampered 85 yards for another score. He scored from 35 yards out late in the first quarter for his third touchdown.
Rogers City (2-5) scored early in the second quarter on a one-yard run from Kaleb Budnick, but the Hurons were kept off the board again until late in the game.
Schutte scored his fourth touchdown on an 8-yard run with 8:13 left in the first half and with 47 seconds left Kyle Colton scored on a nine-yard quarterback keeper to give the Cardinals a 36-6 halftime lead.
Whittemore added two touchdowns in the second half including one on an interception return.
Rogers City’s final score came late in the fourth quarter as Budnick found Ethan Hincka for a 16-yard touchdown.
The Hurons play at Newberry on Friday.
OSCODA — After beginning the season 0-3, the Hillman football team continues to turn its season around and won its fourth game in a row by defeating Oscoda by a final score of 35-21 on Friday in Oscoda.
The Tigers were led by Billy Kolcan who had 151 yards on 22 carries and also caught three passes for 41 yards and had a receiving touchdown. Caine Hunt ran the ball 24 times and racked up 138 yards and found the end zone three times.
Quarterback Kyler Moir was 7-for-9 passing for 118 yards and threw two touchdowns. Matt Hunt had four receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown.
Matt Hunt also led the defense with 13 tackles. Nash Steinke had two key interceptions in the game as the Tigers defense put together a solid performance.
“The boys played solid, physical football all night,” Hillman coach Bill Koenig said. “My coaching staff did an excellent job tonight and I am very proud of them all.”
The Tigers improve to 4-3 overall on the season and will host Whittemore-Prescott on Friday.
BELLAIRE — The Posen football team suffered another tough loss on Friday as the Vikings were defeated by Bellaire 36-14.
Dylan Schuch led the Vikings with 188 yards rushing on 31 carries. Mark Wisniewski had 20 rushes for 84 yards and scored both of Posen’s touchdowns.
Defensively, the Vikings were led by George Kroll who had eight tackles. Brady Chojnacki had seven tackles, Andrew Hall recorded six tackles and Gage Kazubowski chipped in with five tackles.
Posen falls to 1-6 overall on the year and will take on Pellston on Friday.
