ACC runners turn in career bests at LCC

The Alpena Community College cross country team had one of the best days in team history, running Friday at the Lansing Community College Invitational.

With nine runners participating for the Lumberjacks, six ran career bests, while a seventh ran a season best. These runners averaged a drop of 52 seconds each from their best time ever. With three weeks left in the season, the team continues to drop times every time they race.

“This really bodes well for us to finish our season well,” coach Mark Jacobs said. “This is the best our top three guys have ever run for our program, the key now is getting our number four and five guys in the mix. The next three weeks we will work harder than we’ve ever worked and see where it takes us.”

Oliver Rice (Hale) led the team with a 40-second career best with a time of 28:40. Jonathon Pischner (Charlevoix) was close behind with a time of 28:49. Kolin Ghidoni (Alpena) continued his outstanding season with a time of 29:06. Ghidioni was followed by Austin Enns (Hart) 30:37, Isaac Cross (Alpena) 31:37, Levi Goebel (Alpena) 32:02, Sheldon Elkie (Hillman) 34:34, Evan LeTourneau (Alpena) 35:49 and Andrew Grabiel (Alpena) 37:27.

The Lumberjacks travel next Friday to Muskegon to compete at the Jayhawk Invitational.
