Wildcats routed by Traverse City West; Owls score early, often vs. Hurons

TRAVERSE CITY–Not much went right for the Alpena High football team on Friday as the Wildcats were humbled in a 58-0 loss to Traverse City West.

Seven different West players scored as the Titans rolled to a 44-0 halftime lead and didn’t allow the Wildcats much room to do anything.

Jonathan Jurkovich had a pair of rushing touchdowns and Erik LaBonte, Andrew Campbell, Josh Dean, Shawn Deeren and Shane Davis each had a rushing touchdown.

Braden Rubinas added a touchdown after returning a blocked punt 44 yards for a score.

Alpena (2-3, 1-2 Big North) was held without a first down for at least a quarter and struggled on special teams, having one punt blocked and muffing another.

Jurkovich got West’s scoring started with a 17-yard scamper and LaBonte (18 yards) and Campbell (four yards) added touchdowns before the end of the first quarter.

The scoring only continued from there as Jurkovich (44 yards) and Dean (one yard) each scored before Rubinas added a defense touchdown on the blocked punt.

Deeren (2 yards) and Davis (nine yards) each scored in the second half with a running clock starting with the beginning of the third quarter.

Alpena plays at Ypsilanti on Friday.

Oscoda 35,

Rogers City 0

OSCODA–The Oscoda football team ran early and often against Rogers City on Friday, building a 35-0 lead before the game was called off.

The game was called shortly before halftime due to lighting.

Nathan Nagel ran for a pair of touchdowns and passed for another for the Owls who took it to the Hurons early and led 28-0 after one quarter.

Nagel ran for a 25-yard touchdown on Oscoda’s first possession and threw a 15-yard touchdown strike to Andy Dault on Oscoda’s next drive for a 12-0 lead.

After a Rogers City fumble, Nagel scampered 10 yards for another score and before the end of the quarter, Oscoda converted again on a Huron turnover as Travis Lamrock found the end zone on a five yard run after the Hurons fumbled the kickoff.

Dault added a 26-yard touchdown in the second quarter before the game was called.
