Onaway earns home win against Pellston

ONAWAY — The night didn’t start off like the Onaway volleyball team had hoped, but in the end, the Cardinals came out on top as they defeated Pellston by scores of 17-25, 25-18, 25-22 and 25-14 on Tuesday.

“We didn’t start off well and we just weren’t real efficient early, but we got it going in the second set,” Onaway coach Steve Watson said. “We got geared up and went on a roll after the second set and didn’t look back. It was a nice win tonight.”

The Cardinals were led by Maddie McLean who had 21 digs, 16 kills and six aces. Jaclyn Nash dished out 23 assists, had 29 digs, six kills and three aces. Calley Selke added 24 digs, six kills and two aces. KayAnna Dean chipped in with 16 digs, six assists and three kills.

With the win, Onaway improves to 4-1 in Ski-Valley Conference play.

The Cardinals have built some momentum as they went 5-0-1 and won a weekend tournament at St. Ignace over the weekend as well.

Onaway will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts a tournament.
