Alcona runs by Cardinals

LINCOLN–A lengthy weather delay did nothing to slow the Alcona football team on Friday.

Tim Hutchinson scored three touchdowns and five different Alcona players ran for a touchdown as the Tigers rolled over Whittemore-Prescott 52-14.

Weather delays pushed the start of the game past 9 p.m. and the two teams went back and forth in the first half. Alcona led 22-14 at halftime and the game was tied 6-6 after one quarter. The Tigers (4-1, 3-1 North Star League) pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Cardinals 22-0 in the final two quarters.

Hutchinson had 235 yards and three scores on 18 carries and Jack Hutchinson had 176 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.

Alex Stephenson, Ian Travis and Dominic Howe added one rushing touchdown each.

Devon Mills led Alcona’s defense with 12 tackles and Stephenson and Jack Hutchinson each had an interception.

Alcona plays at Oscoda on Friday in a matchup of the North Star League’s top two teams.

Pickford 58, Posen 12

PICKFORD–The Posen football team couldn’t do much to stop Pickford on Friday and lost to the Panthers 58-12.

The Vikings put up some big numbers and played hard, but couldn’t slow Pickford’s offense which helped the Panthers roll to a 46-6 lead at halftime.

“We’re fighting illness and injury. They physically just dominated us, but the kids played with pride and heart in the second half and I was proud of them for that,” Posen coach Greg Pietsch said. “We got beat by a better team tonight.”

Posen (1-4) trailed just 8-6 early in the first quarter before Pickford started to pull away. Pickford led 22-6 after one quarter.
