Schook throws no-hitter in Hillman sweep
HILLMAN — Vanessa Schook tossed another no-hitter in the first game on Hillman’s doubleheader sweep of Atlanta on Thursday. Schook pitched just the three innings that were needed in the 18-0 mercy win as she struck out eight Huskies.
Schook, Lyndsey Ryba, Eve LaFlech, Andrea Taratuta and Morgan Armon all went 2-for-3 in the game. Morgan Dove went 3-for-3 with two doubles and both Jozie Appelgren and Brooke Jones went a perfect 2-for-2.
The Tigers again made quick work in the nightcap, winning 15-0 again in just three innings.
Dove picked up the win allowing just two hits and struck out two.
Dove and Alison Samp each went 2-for-2 at the plate. Appelgren went 2-for-3 and Autumn Jones, Taratuta, Elizabeth Weiland and Armon all chipped in with a hit apiece.
Hillman improves to 22-5 overall on the season.
Rogers City sweeps
ROGERS CITY–The Rogers City softball team won a doubleheader against Au Gres on Thursday. The Hurons won the opener 16-1 and the nightcap 15-1.
Rogers City pitcher Jayna Hance pitched a four inning game in the opener, with one run allowed on one hit with six strikeouts.
Kayla Rabeau had three hits and an RBI; Hannah Fleming had three hits, four RBI, two doubles and a triple; Taylor Fleming has two hits and three RBI; Hance had two hits and one RBI; Kyrsten Altman had two hits; Saige Wagner had two hits and three RBI; Amanda Wirgau and Jordyn Schalk had a hit each and Hannah Dittmar had a hit and an RBI.
In the nightcap, Hance pitched a five inning game with one run allowed on one hit with five strikeouts.
Mary Brege had her first career home run; Rabeau had two hits and an RBI; Linnea Hentkowski had two hits and an RBI; Kyrsten Altman had a hit and an RBI; Hance had two hits and two RBI; Hannah Fleming had three hits, a double, and an RBI; Taylor Fleming had two hits, a double and two RBI; Wirgau had two hits and two RBI and Wagner and Dittmar had a hit each.
Rogers City (22-0) plays in the Maple City Glen Lake Tournament on Saturday. The Hurons play against Kingsley in their first game of the day.
Posen drops twinbill
MIO–The Posen softball team faced two tough losses in a doubleheader against Mio on Thursday. Posen lost the opener 9-8 and the nightcap 17-4.
In the opener, Arianne Chojnacki pitched five innings for Posen, with four hits and one earned run allowed and four strikouts. Hannah Stone hit a triple and Brooke Ciarkowski hit a double.
In the nightcap, Stone, Ciarkowski, Chojnacki, Cami LaTulip and Taylor Roznowski each had a hit.
Posen (11-14) hosts its annual Wozniak Invitational on Saturday.
Moir pitches Hillman past Atlanta
HILLMAN–The Hillman baseball team dominated a doubleheader against Atlanta on Thursday, winning the opener 14-3 and the nightcap 12-2.
In the opener, Hillman’s pitcher Kyle Moir struck out the first 12 batters in four innings, with only one run and one hit allowed.
Moir was 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI; Izac Thompson was 1-for-3 with a run and three RBI; Cam Koenig was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run; Isaac Morrison was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run.
In the nightcap, Moir pitched four innings with 10 strikeouts, no hits, no runs and no walks. Moir was 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI; Jared Juerges was 1-for-3 with a double and three runs; Thompson was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs, and three RBI; Gabe Cordes was 1-for-1 with a run and an RBI.
Hurons take twinbill from Au Gres
ROGERS CITY–The Rogers City baseball team won both games in a doubleheader against Au Gres on Thursday. Rogers City won the opener 2-1 and the nightcap 11-1.
In the opener, Alex Altman pitched all six innings for Rogers City, allowing just one run and striking out four.
In the nightcap, Jacob Hilla pitched five innings for Rogers City with one run and three strikeouts. Deuce Tulgetska was 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and a home run; Tristan Baller was 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Rogers City (11-7) plays in the Maple City Glen Lake Tournament on Saturday.
