TENNIS

The Alpena Girls Tennis had an outstanding Tuesday in Traverse City. Alpena played Traverse City West and split 4-4 with their Big North Conference opponent. Kayla Bullock at No. 2 singles won in three sets 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. The Team of Macy Cosbitt and Jordan Sengenberger at No. 2 doubles won 6-2, 6-3. Angela Salacata and Breanne Kieliszewski at No. 3 doubles won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. At No. 4 doubles Priya Pokorzynski and Taylor Belanger won 6-2, 7-5. Kaitlyn Schultz lost 6-3, 0-6, 1-6 at No. 2 singles. This was the best result with a Big North opponent in the 12 years that Charlie Giordano has coached.

“The teams success can be attributed to their hard work at practice, being coachable and flexible during a match and having worked with Aplex Teaching Pro Denny Green in the off season. The Players are now seeing the payoff for the time they put in during practice and the off season. Players and parents should be proud of their improvement,” Giordano said.
