Posen finishes regular season 9-0 with win over Charlton Heston

POSEN- The Posen football team ended its 2015 regular season in dominating fashion on Saturday, defeating Charlton Heston 66-16.

“It feels great (to win), 9-0 is a big one. Winning one game at a time is so important to approach your goals that way and the kids really responded and I’m so proud of this group. From our seniors and captains, all the way down to our youngest freshman, we’re a team and it just feels great” Posen coach Greg Pietsch said

Posen gained control from the opening whistle, as it only took the Vikings three plays before putting points on the board when Skyler Tulgetske raced 24 yards for a touchdown.

The scoring didn’t top there as Posen went on to score four more times in the opening quarter. One of those touchdowns came just over a minute after the first one as Evan Schuch took a handoff from quarterback Travis Sharpe and took it 48 yards to give the Vikings a two score lead early.

Less than a minute later, Sharpe intercepted a pass and on the very next play, the Vikings’ signal caller ran 18 yards to find pay dirt.

Dylan Schuch and Tulgetske both scored touchdowns before the quarter ended with Tulgetske’s score coming on a 53 yard punt return.

Posen went on to score three more touchdowns in the second quarter, two of which came on touchdown runs by Sharpe.

Charlton Heston was able to get on the board with 25 seconds left in the half as quarterback Anthony Peters connected with his receiver DJ Silva for a 23-yard score.

With a second half that saw a running clock, Posen was able to rest some of its starters and get younger players some game time in preparation for the playoffs which begin this week.

Posen got a great performance out of Sharpe who had an all around superb game where he ran for over 200 yards and eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing on the season. Sharpe also found the end zone four times on the ground and picked off two passes. Tulgetske ran for over 100 yards and scored three touchdowns. Evan Schuch, Dylan Schuch and Nathan Mulka all added a touchdown in the win for the Vikings as well.

Not only did Posen cap off its fourth undefeated regular season in school history and first since 2002, but the Vikings also set the school’s all-time record for points in a season.

This Vikings will look to continue to make history this week when they host Pickford at 7 p.m. Friday in a first-round playoff game.

“We’re going to continue to take it one game at a time, win every game and win every week and keep this season going. This is a team we built for the playoffs and we’re right there. There is always areas to improve on. I think if the kids keep this hunger, keep this drive, keep the desire and the determination, we can make a run this year and that is what we’re going to try and do” Pietsch said.
