New honorary race chairs named for 14th Annual ARMC Aliferis Race

Alpena Regional Medical Center recently named Dr. Eric and Michelle Cornish, as this year’s Honorary Race Chairs for the Development Council’s 14th Annual Aliferis Race.

Dr. Cornish, an orthopaedic Surgeon with ARMC Medical Group Orthopaedic Services, moved to Alpena in 1996, and in addition to his medical practice, he has been active in many events and organizations in our community.

Eric and Michelle are avid cyclists and have a passion for an active and healthy lifestyle. Michelle works at Aces Academy as the Principal, and is also an active volunteer in the Alpena community.

“We love the outdoors and participating in running or cycling events. Eric and I both ran cross country in high school, and we still enjoy running,”?Michelle said. “I ran the Aliferis Race the first year it started in 2002 and have many great memories of race day since then. We look forward to Labor Day weekend every year, as the Aliferis Race is a great opportunity for our community family to gather together and exercise for a worthy cause.”

Ann Diamond, ARMC Development Director, commented, “This is one of the highlights of the year for ARMC. We honor Dr. Aliferis’ contributions to the community and the hospital by conducting an event for people of all ages and ability levels to get outside and walk, run or bike. We are especially grateful to Eric and Shelly Cornish for being the honorary race chairs for the 14th annual event. They live a healthy, active lifestyle and are great role models for fitness in our community.”

The events offered will be a half marathon, the duathlon (5K and 18.5 Bike Race), the 5K run, one mile family run/walk, 18.5 bike race, 6-mile bike tour and the ever popular Tot Trot for those nine and under.
