F Sergey Deev to return to Street Cats

The Alpena Street Cats have announced that Russian forward Sergey Deev will return to the Street Cats for the upcoming Midwest Junior Hockey League season.

During the 2012-13 season with the Street Cats, Deev scored at nearly a goal-per-game pace, netting 13 goals in 14 games, along with nine assists for 22 points.

Alpena head coach Igor Myaskovskiy is elated at Deev’s return.

“Sergey is the character of our team and is the type of player who never gives up, isn’t selfish, never complains, never leaves teammates without good passing and is always there on and off the ice for help and support,” Myaskovskiy said in a press release. “I expect that he will be a real leader and will set a good example for everyone. To play with him gives a big advantage to everyone. Sergey is smart, brave and creative.”

Deev, 18, started playing hockey with his hometown Moscow Dynamo when he was four years old. Deev played seven years for the Dynamo youth club.

Deev said chose to come back and play for the Street Cats for two reasons.

“My two reasons for coming back are the coach and the desire to win the league championship,” said Deev. “Coach Igor gave me a lot last year in all areas – strategy, skills and team play. He let me play in different positions and it was better to see the game. And I have gone back to him and Alpena because I know it’s my way to get on new level and play in the Ontario Hockey League or North American Hockey League. After the 2012-13 season about 6-8 colleges offered me to play for them, so I believe I have already proven that I can play at this level.”
