Late HRs give AL sixth straight ASG win

WASHINGTON D.C.–In a game highlighted by the long ball, George Springer had the biggest home run of the night.

The Houston Astros’ star homered off of Ross Stripling in the top of the 10th inning for the go-ahead run and his teammate Alex Bregman added a solo shot to give the American League an 8-6 win in 10 innings over the National League in the 2018 Major League Baseball All-Star Game on Tuesday.

The homers by the Astros teammates pushed the American League to its sixth consecutive All-Star win in the 89th annual event at Washington’s National Park.

In total, baseball’s biggest stars combined for 10 home runs on the night.

The AL looked poised for a win in nine innings, but the NL staved off defeat when Scooter Gennett hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth inning.

One inning prior, Jean Segura hit a 390-foot three-run homer off of Josh Hader in the top of the eighth inning to lift the AL back into the lead, 5-2.

Solo homers from Aaron Judge (first inning) and Mike Trout (third inning) gave the AL an early lead.

Wilson Contreras answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning and the AL held a 2-1 lead until the bottom of the seventh when Trevor Story hit a solo shot to left field.

After Segura’s blast, the NL gained a run back in the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo blast from Christian Yelich, making it 5-3.

The AL added a run after its 10th inning homers when Segura scored on a sac fly. The NL got its final run in the bottom of the 10th on a solo shot from Joey Votto.
