Letters To Ed :-)

"We've been duped by the Republicans. Kentucky Sen. and minority leader Mitch McConnell in a news conference one day after the election, stated that the single and sole goal of the GOP over the next two years is: to make Barack Obama a single term president. What an arrogant and obnoxious goal and statement. There agenda before the election was to get votes by promising that there first goals were jobs, the economy and health care reform. It seems their goal is to grab power, not to do things for the people that are in need of jobs and or unemployment pay, health care for those that don't have it, and the people losing their homes. This is the same party that wanted the auto plants and their suppliers to go out of business. We are just coming back from what they did to this country, and now we have them back to do the same things to our country again. What a mess the next two years is going to bring to this country. Talk about partisanship." Carl D. Leow Rogers Cit

Alpena is always crying about loosing the young people. They must be moving to Colorado to farm and sell gay scout cookies. The fiscal conservatives beat the religious conservatives bad in Arizona. Lets hope Snyder doesn't hold Michigan back.

Benny is the funniest show in town. "I think education is the real way out of this economy that we're in." In the meantime the GOP is fighting tooth and nail to cut education funding and to send kids to school hungry. He wants to open up the markets for health insurance, which would have happened if the GOP had worked along with the MAJORITY party instead of using all their energy to fight them. There could be insurance exchanges in every state with dozens of choices.

I enjoy hearing a well thought opinion, but what we have seen from the resident 'conservatives' rarely has that quality that would make me pause and consider.

Jax, we see in the Saturday Alpena News that Benishek came to Alpena to save the day. One business person sought to complain about environmental regulations harming his business. We can bet that Benishek will do what he can to relax environmental regulations to allow further degradation of our natural resources, as we are seeing across the country with lax enforcement causing disastrous coal ash spills harming the water supply. Water costs more than oil, so protect it.

I saw a story that Girl Scout cookies are selling like crazy outside the pot stores in Colorado. This thing is turning into a win-win for everyone.

I missed the RS post. No, I don't wish his business bad, but I question a business that can't function with regulation. That often means someone wants to dump something into a river or the atmosphere, import something toxic, ship something dangerous or sell an untested product for consumption like a weight-loss pill. I know a roofer in Florida who is thriving now because of the regulations there. He says there are so many regulations roofers are staying out, and now that he knows the system and has a way to deal with the regulations, he has all the business he can handle.

I see our drug court forces people to attend AA or NA both of which were bait and switch religious conditioning back when I attended. A Rational Recovery group is needed for those unable to lie to themselves long enough to believe a higher power/god Thingy exists. Court forced dishonesty sems a poor method for recovery and is illegal under many circumstances. The ACLU should be notitied that in Alpena it's religion or jail.

SHRILL is just off licking his wounds somewhere. He reminds me of my gout. I am greatly relieved when it goes away, but I know it will be back. Actually, this forum may die without him. What's the use in logging on if you don't get completely outraged by the stupid stuff he spouts? Much as I dislike the man, I wish him luck. I don't know how much he says is really true, but if you have a business and it is going bad, it is really tough--I know, I've been there.

Then you had some local framers (members of the Tea Party) protesting government welfare while all the time they are receiving government farm subsidies worth hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, I guess it help feed their show horses.

Rshiil has come to the realization that by supporting the Tea Party and the GOP that he was protesting all that is good for the USA.

That and he gave away his identity for those that care, making public that he is not the businessman he claimed to be but just a poor working person struggling to survive.

Freeman and the Tea Party has never said when were the good old times they talk about taking the USA back to.

Smoke Smoke Smoke (that cigarette) Tex Williams or Commander Cody version, sums up the tobacco industry. The ties to the Kochs I was unclear on, but given their propensity for planet and human harmful policies, no surprise.

"Does the Earth go around the Sun, or does the Sun go around the Earth?"

If you answered the latter, you're among a quarter of Americans who also got it wrong, according to a new report by the National Science Foundation.

a new report by the National Science Foundation.

A survey of 2,200 people that was released Friday revealed some alarming truths about the state of science education across the country, with many failing to an answer even the most basic astronomy and science questions, according to a release about the survey.

Out of nine questions in the survey, participants scored an average 6.5.

Only 39 percent answered correctly with "true" when asked if "The universe began with a huge explosion,"

while only 48 percent knew that "Human beings, as we know them today, developed from earlier species of animals," according to the statement.

"The two main organizations identified in the UCSF Quarterback study are Americans for Prosperity and Freedomworks. Both groups are now "supporting the tobacco companies' political agenda by mobilizing local Tea Party opposition to tobacco taxes and smoke-free laws." Freedomworks and Americans for Prosperity were once a single organization called Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE). CSE was founded in 1984 by the infamous Koch Brothers"
