Last-minute touchdown gives Hillman the edge over Rudyard

RUDYARD-The Hillman football team pulled off what coach Bill Koenig thinks might be a first on Thursday when it beat Rudyard 39-33 on a touchdown with 27 seconds left in the game.

"First time I have ever beaten Rudyard, whether I was playing or coaching and I'm very proud of the boys, it was definitely a team effort," Koenig said.

Hillman was led on the ground by Kenny Kolcan with 75-yards and two touchdowns. Travis Powers caught four for 73-yards and one touchdown. Mason VanPamel pulled down two for 66-yards and two touchdowns.

Quarterback Ty Jones hit nine passes out of 16 for 183-yards and two touchdowns. Dylan Steinke also had a 14-yard touchdown run.

Hunter Milled led defensively with 10 tackles.

Hillman hosts East Jordan next Friday.

Rogers City 28,

Au Gres-Sims, 14

AU GRES-The Rogers City football team won its second opening game in a row with a 28-14 victory over Au Gres.

It was led on the ground by Jacob Malocha with 14 carries for 138 yards and two touchdowns.

Cedarville 52, Posen 0

CEDARVILLE-The Posen football team lost it's first game of the season against a tough Cedarville squad in a 52-0 shutout.

The Vikings travel to Rapid River on Friday for another Bridge Eight-Man Football Alliance matchup.

No results were called in from the Onaway or Mio games.

SOCCER

Alcona 4, Roscommon 3

Alcona 2, Bay City John Glenn 1

ROSCOMMON-The Alcona soccer team (3-3) ended a two-day trip with wins over Roscommon and Bay City John Glenn.

It beat Bay City 2-1 on Wendesday. Trenton Lavergne scored both while Brandon Smigelski picked up the assists.

Lavergne also led the way in Alcona's 4-3 win over Roscommon, scoring three goals and an assist. Jason Steiner booted in one of his own and added two assists while Jeff Schram had a single assist.

Alcona travels to Gaylord on Tuesday.

VOLLEYBALL

Rogers City competes in New Lothrop tournament.

NEW LOTHROP-The Rogers City (4-3-3) volleyball team put up a consistent showing in the New Lothrop tournament.

It started by beating Carmen-Ainsworth 25-20 and 25-13. It then split with Dansville 25-16 and 19-25 and lost to Linden 19-25 and 22-25.

It seeded second into the Gold Pool where it fell to Durand 25-23, 14-25 and 14-16.

Jena Tulgestke led offensively with 26 kills and defensively with 13 blocks. Alexa Quaine had 15 kills and 54 digs while Cassidy Purgiel had 14 kills, six blocks and nine aces. Sarah Meredith had 14 kills while Allsy Streich had 47 assists.

The Hurons play next Saturday in its home tournament.
