It was more than two years ago when a four-year idea became a reality and Cookin' for a Cause was established. Since that time the organization has lived up to everything it was envisioned to be and more.
With no more advertising than word of mouth, the team is completing its third summer of feeding the public and putting funds in the hands of service clubs and charities.
The core focus of the organization to exist was formed in three parts of the mission statement with the central theme to be service to those in need.
First, the organization provides an opportunity to service clubs and non-profit organizations to raise funds by participating in events where Cookin' for a Cause is located. After all expenses are accounted for, the remaining funds are disbursed.
Second, Cookin' for a Cause participates in some events and raises funds through the sale of its products. At the end of each event season, the remaining funds are passed on to the American Red Cross disaster relief fund.
The third part of the mission statement is to provide logistical support to emergency personnel in the form of food during a large scale operation or disaster such as a forest fire or tornado.
In appreciation of local emergency personnel such as police, fire and EMS, Cookin' for a Cause plans to provide free lunch to these public servants as a thank-you for the work they do every day of the week. This opportunity is being held in conjunction with a coordinated police training program which made the show of appreciation possible.
This Saturday at 5 p.m., as part of the last of the Summer Concert Series event being held at the Bayview Park Bandshell, Cookin' for a Cause will sell food to attendees raising funds for a Boy Scout from the Lewiston area who became ill this summer. He has had two surgeries already and has more planned. His mother, who is a single parent, has had to leave her job to take care of the needs of her child.
Those attending the concert this Saturday are asked to help out the cause at the Cookin' for a Cause trailer.
So far this summer, Cookin' for a Cause has disbursed more than $3,000 to different groups, charities and service clubs. The team thanks the public for supporting its mission.
