Gerald M. Nokland, 70, of Hubbard Lake, passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at his home.
Gerald was born on June 3, 1944, to the late Gilbert and Naomi Nokland. He served in the United States Navy for four years during the Vietnam War before returning to the area where he continued to sail for the next 37 years, retiring on the Paul H. Townsend in 1999. Jerry was a lifetime member of the VFW Alpena Post 2496, active with the Hubbard Lake Citizens Watch and will be remembered for his kind, generous personality.
Surviving are a sister, Mary Ellen Lovick; five nephews, Mike Neumann, Patrick (Carol) Neumann, Tommy Lovick, Troy Gierszewski, Jeff (Shannon) Lovick; two great-nephews, Ashton and Troy Jr.
Mr. Nokland was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Neumann; twin brother, Gilbert; and brother-in-law, Thomas Lovick.
Memorial visitation will take place on Friday at the Bannan Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until the memorial service at 1 p.m. with Rev. James Kendziorski officiating; followed by full military honors accorded him by VFW Alpena Post 2496.
