The criminal investigation into the death of a three-week-old Bismarck Township baby will continue in light of an autopsy report.
Presque Isle County Prosecutor Richard Steiger said he has received the report, and after reviewing it the investigation into the baby's death remains a criminal one. He expects to make a decision on whether to press charges within four weeks.
The baby was taken to Alpena Regional Medical Center on April 3, placed on life support and transferred to the Saginaw Hospital, where he died April 5.
A doctor who treated the baby confirmed the head and internal injuries were non-accidental, according to a release from the Presque Isle Sheriff's Department.
The baby was at home with his mother and her boyfriend in Bismarck Township on April 3 when he stopped breathing and emergency responders were called to the scene. Police say no one else was at the residence at the time.
Presque Isle County sheriff's deputies are working with officers from Saginaw, Michigan State Police troopers from Saginaw and Child and Family Services on the case.
