Jeff and Trina Gray were named chairpersons for this year's United Way of Northeast Michigan campaign. Jeff is the superintendent of the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and Trina is the owner of Bay Athletic Club.
"We are honored that we have been chosen as the leadership for the upcoming campaign," Jeff said. "We have been in Alpena 12 years and we love it here, it is a great place to live, work and play. Trina and I feel it is a privilege to have been chosen as the chairpersons for such a wonderful, respected organization as the United Way. We look forward to working with the United Way Board of Directors, the community supported agencies and the United Way staff and will work to the best of our ability in assisting the United Way in their continuation of providing vital programs and services to the citizens in Northeast Michigan."
The 2014-15 campaign is scheduled to kick off on Sept. 5 with a Good Morning Alpena breakfast in conjunction with the Alpena Chamber of Commerce at the APlex. The public portion of the campaign will continue through Nov. 7.
Currently a total of $171,510, representing 79.8 percent of the $215,000 goal has been pledged for the 2013-14 campaign that was led by Mike and Barb Mahler.
In regular session following the annual meeting, Kevin Brown of Alpena Power Company assumed the leadership position as president of the board for 2014-15. Ann Diamond from Alpena Regional Medical Center was elected president-elect, Melissa Schaedig, from Alpena Public Schools, was elected as secretary and JoAnn Dehring with First Federal of Northern Michigan was re-elected treasurer.
Jean Bauer of the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary; Angie Crittenden with Lafarge; Niki Sandy with the AMA Educational Service District; Roger Steele with Atlanta Bible Church and Dylan Wallace with Isackson, Wallace, Pfeifer, P.C. were nominated and approved as new board members for 2014-15.
