Robert David Massey, 90, of Alpena passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at his home.
Robert was born on Jan. 27, 1924, in Detroit to the late William and Olga (Thiel) Massey. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and retired as a Chief Petty Officer following his 20 years of service in the Navy Seals. He later owned and operated Massey Marine Construction and Salvage, where he salvaged most of the Nordmeer. In 1978, he moved to Florida where he taught at Florida Institute of Technology until his final retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Alpena Elks and the Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his children, David Massey, Mark (Janice) Massey, Candice Massey; two grandchildren, April and Nicholas; two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Massey was preceded in death by two brothers, William Massey, Grant Massey.
Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home. A memorial service will take place at a later time.
