HOLLY -The Alpena softball team (12-2) swept Holly on Friday in 12-2 and 6-0 wins that highlighted consistent pitching and team-oriented defense.
Alex Peters pitched a complete game in the opener, giving up two hits and striking out six.
Peters, Logan Myers, Jessica Marwede and Allison Heise had two hits apiece.
The Wildcats got on the board quickly and scored in every inning. They scored five runs in the third inning.
Lauren Heath pitched five innings in the second game while Kara Gehrke finished. They combined for eight strikeouts.
Elise Leeck and Myers led with two hits.
"We had solid defense all the way around and we just had a great team effort," Alpena coach Paul Marwede said. "Our pitchers did a nice job of controlling the tempo and again playing in colder, damp conditions."
Alpena travels to Clarkston today to compete in the 48 team Michigan Stars Tournament.

Lake Orion 7-0
LAKE ORION-The Alpena JV softball team split a pair of games with Lake Orion on Friday, losing the first game 7-2 and winning the second game 4-0.
Mykayla Price pitched the first game and along one walk and had two strikeouts.
At the plate she was 1-for-3 and Kennedy Lundquist was 1-for-3 with a double.
In the second game, Price threw five innings, allowing three hits and no walks with three strikeouts.
Liz Kendziorski was 2-for-3 with a triple, Alyssa Gehrke was 1-for-2 with a double and Alayna Nugent was 1-for-2.
Alpena is 9-1 on the season and plays in the eight-team Lake Orion Invite today.
Alpena 1, Tawas 1
TAWAS-The Alpena girls soccer team overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit and played to a 1-1 tie with Tawas on Friday.
Lexi Rushing scored Alpena's only goal-her fourth of the season-on a corner kick with an assist from Isabelle O'Neil.
"We played much more inspired in the second half and with improved play comes good things," Alpena coach Tim Storch said.
Alpena (1-6-1) hosts Ogemaw on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
TRACK AND FIELD
Local teams compete in Bulldog Invite
INDIAN RIVER- The Onaway, Rogers City and Posen track teams competed in the Bulldog Invite on Thursday.
The Cheboygan boys won the 18 team competition with 145 points followed while Sault Ste. Marie and Inland Lakes tied for second (83). Onaway was ninth (26), Rogers City was 10th (18) while Posen tied Mancelona and Pellston for last place.
Onaway's top finisher was Joe O'Bradovich, who picked up a fourth place finish in the high jump (5-6). Cameron Horn picked up a fourth place finish in the 300 hurdles (46.90) while the 400 relay team picked up fourth (48.40).
Andrew Selke was Rogers City's top competitor. He won third in the shot put (40-6) and fifth in discus (107-4). Jacob Flemming tied with two Mancelona jumpers for fifth in the high jump (5-4).
Sault won the girls meet with 100 points. Harbor Springs was second with 83 points and Brimley was third with 72.
Top local placers were: Shot Put-2nd place (Anjelica Patterson, Posen, 33-1), 8th place (Megan Quaine, Rogers City, 28-3); Long Jump-8th place (Victoria Bullock, Rogers City, 13-6); 3,200 relay-8th place (Rogers City, 11:40.66); 100 dash-8th place (Patterson, 14.08); 800 relay-6th place (Onaway, 2:11.16); 1,600 run-3rd place (Emily Malocha, Rogers City, 5:55.30); 400 dash-6th place (Lindsay Randall, Posen, 1:07.32); 300 hurdles-3rd place (Sami Bober, Rogers City, 53.01); 800 run-5th place (Malocha, 2:44.51); 200 dash-4th place (Randall, 28.99), 8th place (Patterson, 29.89); 3,200 run-2nd place (Malocha, 12:41.67); 1600 relay-6th place (4:50.05).
Alpena JV 5-0
The Alpena JV baseball team lost a pair of games to Petoskey on Thursday 11-5 and 6-0 (five innings).
In the opener, Alpena (1-3) fell behind by nine after two innings and couldn't make up the deficit.
Alpena finished the game with 11 hits. Joe Ayala was 3-for-4 and Dylan Tucker was 2-for-3.
Rhett McDonald pitched the first four innings for Alpena and was relieved by Bailey Marquardt for the final three innings.
The Wildcats managed just two hits in the second game, one each from Ayala and Marquardt.
Ayala took the loss for Alpena and took the loss after the game was called after five innings because of darkness.
Alpena plays at Gaylord on Tuesday.
TBJH loses to Gaylord
The Thunder Bay Junior High boys track team won 10 of 17 events during a Thursday meet with Gaylord, but the Blue Devils still managed to beat the Wildcats 75-61.
First place finishes went to Alex Arch in the high jump (5-4), 400 dash (59.58) and as a member of the 800 relay team (1:47.7); Aden Smith won the 1,600 run (5:30.9) and Ian Smith won the long jump (14-0 1/2); Mike Clark won the 100 dash (12.9) and was also on the winning 800 relay team. The 3,200 relay team of Josh Smith, Aden Smith, Jimmy Decker and Zachary Zaborney won in 10:57.07. Christian Stevens won the pole vault (7-0), Tommy Mayes won the shot put (39-9) and Robert Fairchild won the 200 dash (27.24).
Second place finishes went to Stevens in the 800 run (2:48.8) and Bennett Speaks in the 400 dash (62.25) and pole vault (6-6).
Fairchild was third in the 100 dash (13.3) and Ian Smith was third in shot put (32-11).
