KALAMAZOO-The No. 2 Rogers City softball team went 2-1 at the Portage Central Tournament on Saturday and got a small measure of revenge in the process.
The Hurons (4-1) started the day off with a 3-0 loss to Portage Central. The Mustangs one-hit Rogers City as Logan Fleming was the only Huron to record a hit.
Nikki Radke took the loss for the Hurons.
Rogers City rebounded in its second game and beat Grandville 7-5. Alexa Quaine earned the win after pitching the first four innings.
At the plate, Quaine helped her cause with two hits and three RBIs; Fleming had three hits and an RBI; Courtney Streich had 2 hits, both of which were triples and two RBIs; Sara Meredith and Cassie Brege each had a hit and an RBI; Autumn Idalski had two hits and Morgan Hall had a hit.
The Hurons' last matchup of the day was a rematch of last year's state semifinal against No. 1 Kalamazoo Christian; a game the Hurons lost 2-0. Rogers City came out on top this time, winning 8-4.
Radke pitched a complete game for the win. At the plate, Fleming had three hits and an RBI; Streich had an RBI on a sacrifice fly; Meredith had two doubles and a triple and drove in four runs; Brege had two hits; Idalski had a hit; Hall had a hit and an RBI and Quaine and Rachel Chojnacki each had a hit.
"It was a really good tournament with some really good teams and it was a good experience for the Hurons," Rogers City coach Karl Grambau said.
Rogers City is scheduled to host Fairview today starting at 4 p.m., but the game may be moved to Fairview based on field conditions.
