Supports judge’s decision on gay marriage

April 4, 2014
The Alpena News

As an American, I celebrate U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman's decision on March 21 that declared the marriage amendment in Michigan's constitution at odds with the Constitution of the United States. The court basically said that Michigan's 2004 ban on same sex marriage was unconstitutional. Before a stay by a U.S. Appeals Court was issued late the next day, three hundred same sex couples were legally married in four different Michigan counties Unfortunately, Gov. Snyder was quick to declare that he would not allow the state to recognize these marriages while the issue works its way through the courts. This was a small window of time in which we stopped the discrimination against our LGBT citizens. I am encouraged by the truth that once again, while justice may be delayed it will not be denied.
