To celebrate National Poetry Month in April, the Susan Lane Foundation has scheduled two poetry events open to the public.
On April 10 at 6 p.m. SLF will present Michigan through Poetry at the Fletcher Street Brewery. Local readers will share published and unpublished works that have been written in or about the Great Lakes state.
On April 17 at 6 p.m. a public reading will be held at the Great Lakes National Marine Sanctuary's theater featuring the poems of finalists in the first SLF Poetry Prize for students in grades six through 12. Winners and honorable mentions will share original work, with cash awards presented to the first and second place winners in two categories as determined by the foundation's board of directors. Deadline for submissions is April 8 and guidelines can be found at www.susanlanefoundation.com.
SLF was co-founded by siblings Joe Bastow and Anne Bastow Heraghty. Their goal is to bring more literary opportunities to Northeast Michigan through workshops, performance and community outreach.
