OSCODA-The third time was the charm for the Alcona boys basketball team on Monday.
Carson Jamieson scored 21 points and the Tigers topped Tawas 66-40 in a Class C district quarterfinal on Monday in Oscoda.
The win was the first for Alcona against the Braves in three tries this season and moves the Tigers to a semifinal matchup with Houghton Lake on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Alcona jumped out to an 18-2 lead after one quarter and kept the pedal down from there. Alcona led 35-15 at halftime and 52-22 after three quarters.
"This was a great team win for us. The guys played extremely hard and were able to overcome two earlier losses to Tawas. This speaks to their work ethic and perseverance," Alcona coach Jason Somers said.
Trenton Lavergne added 19 points for Alcona and Dawson Forsythe chipped in with 13.
OSCODA-Seth Thomey scored 22 points, Ben Lubitz added 16 and the Mio boys basketball team defeated Whittemore-Prescott 71-50 on Monday in a Class C district quarterfinal in Oscoda.
The win moves the Thunderbolts to a semifinal matchup with Oscoda on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Mio led 16-10 after one quarter and 41-24 at halftime. The Thunderbolts upped their lead to 56-42 after three quarters.
Aaron Georgieff added 14 rebounds for Mio.
Jens Gillings paced the Cardinals with 24 points and Jose Rodriguez added 20 points.
