TRAVERSE CITY- The Alpena girls basketball team beat Traverse City Central 48-42 in the district semifinal to make it to the district final on Friday.
It faces Traverse City West, who upset Marquette 42-39.
Alpena held an 8-5 lead after the first quarter which it extended to 17-11. It took a 31-22 lead into the fourth quarter. Central narrowed the score to six at the final.
"We had a very good very good defensive effort. We played man to man the whole time. Our guards put a lot of pressure on theirs to create turnovers and forced them to have a difficult time," Alpena coach Dan Arsenault said.

"We're really looking forward to playing West. We lost to them by just one point a couple of weeks ago and we're looking to avenge that," Arsenault said.
