GAYLORD-Rhett Limback and Zack Kendziorski each scored two goals for the Alpena hockey team on Friday night and Brandon Ciupka, Jared Plume, Evan Hamp and Joey Bracken each added one goal to the 8-0 win over Gaylord.
Alpena goaltender Jay Dutcher stopped14 shots.
The Wildcats (12-8-1) play Cadillac at home Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Gaylord 46, Alpena 35
GAYLORD-The Alpena girls basketball came up short again in its second game against Gaylord in six days, losing to the Blue Devils 46-35 on Friday.
Alpena (4-9) cut Gaylord's lead to six in the fourth quarter, but couldn't pull any closer. The Wildcats trailed by just six at the half, but Gaylord was able to extend its lead to 12 after three quarters.
"Gaylord is in first place for a reason and we gave them a good fight," Alpena coach Dan Arsenault said. "It was a lot better than the game against Traverse City West (on Monday). We picked up a few turnovers had a few opportunities to make the game closer, but we missed a few open shots."
Adrianna Hatch led Alpena with 13 points and Elizabeth Trelfa added nine.
Alpena will play at Traverse City West tonight at 7 p.m.
Gaylord's JV team defeated Alpena 30-27. Mykayla Price led Alpena with seven points.
Gaylord's freshman team defeated Alpena 53-44. Alexis Decare led Alpena with 19 points.
Gaylord St. Mary 66, Onaway 51
GAYLORD-The Onaway boys basketball team fell victim to a cold night of shooting during a 66-51 loss to Gaylord St. Mary on Friday.
The Snowbirds opened up an 11-3 after one quarter and led 22-16 at halftime. The Cardinals were limited to three free throws in the first quarter and just three fields in the first half.
"We played terrible and the shot the ball the worst I've seen; shot after shot I was in amazement," Onaway coach Eddy Szymoniak said.
Joe O'Bradovich led Onaway with 15 points and Carlos Bautista added 11 points.
Onaway plays at Mancelona on Wednesday.
Rogers City 42
OSCODA- Chris Lopez scored a career-high 23 points with 11 rebounds for the Rogers City boys basketball team in a 56-42 loss against Oscoda on Friday night.
Oscoda took the lead throughout the game, leading 12-10 after one quarter, 22-15 at halftime and 39-31 after three quarters.
Rogers City plays again Tuesday at Alcona.
Posen 77, Hale 73, OT
HALE-The Posen boys basketball team defeated Hale 77-73 in overtime on Friday night.
Hale led 18-13 after one quarter and 37-22 at the half. Hale led by eight after three quarters, but the two teams tied 63-63 at the end of regulation.
Nick Hincka led Posen with 32 points, and Leon Beccard added 20.
Posen plays again Tuesday in Atlanta.
Mio 55, Alcona 36
MIO- Bryce DeGrammont led the Mio boys basketball team with 17 points and 15 rebounds in a 55-36 win over Alcona on Friday.
Ben Lubitz added 14 points and Aaron Georgeiff added 13 for Mio (12-1).
Trenton Lavergne scored 19 points for Alcona.
Mio led 19-8 after the first quarter and 34-17 at the half. The Thunderbolts carried a 50-23 lead into the fourth quarter.
Mio hosts Hillman on Tuesday.
