Posen beats Alcona to stay undefeated

HALE-The Hillman girls basketball team picked up a 58-24 victory over the Hale on Monday. It led 23-2 after one quarter and pulled into a 43-8 lead at the half.

"We jumped out to an early lead in the first and extended it at the half. We then executed the rest of the game as best we could. It was a good win and one we really needed right now," Hillman coach John Kusewski said.

Hillman (5-7) outscored Hale 15-14 in the second half.

Jensen Tchorzynski led Hillman with 22 points while freshman Vanessa Shook had 21.

Hillman travels to Whittemore-Prescott on Wednesday.

Fairview 53,

Whittemore 14

FAIRVIEW-The Fairview girls basketball team picked up a convincing 53-14 win over Whittemore-Prescott on Monday.

Fairview took a 14-0 lead after one and extended it to 26-7 at the half. It pulled even further ahead at the end of the third quarter with a 45-10 lead.

Logan Winton led Fairview with 19 points while Alison Winton had 11. Emily Lang led Whittemore with nine.

"We play Posen tomorrow and we really wanted to come out and play hard to prepare for that. (Posen) is a tough team and we know we need to play our best to beat them," Fairview coach Marc Winton said.

Fairview hosts Posen tonight.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Onaway 72,

Central Lake 53

CENTRAL LAKE Onaway's boys basketball team improved its record to 10-2 on Monday with a 72-53 win over Central Lake.

"We played really great team basketball. We moved the ball really well and controlled the game the whole way," Onaway coach Eddy Szymoniak said.

The Cardinals took a 15-5 lead after one quarter and stretched their lead to 31-16 at the half. Onaway pulled away 54-32 in the third.

Joe O'Bradovich led the Cardinals with 20 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Andrew Prow had 18 points from six treys. Carlos Bautista added 12 points.

Onaway hosts Central Lake on Wednesday.

Au Gres 74, Rogers City 55

ROGERS CITY The Au Gres boys basketball team beat Rogers City 74-55 in a game on Monday that got away from the Hurons in the third quarter.

Au Gres held a 20-14 lead after one quarter and a 37-29 lead at the half. It then pulled into a 58-42 lead after the third quarter.

"The game really got away from us in the first five minutes of the third. We also gave up too many turnovers. We had 26 turnovers and it was really our Achilles Heel," Rogers City coach Jesse Streich said.

Alex Hincka led the Hurons with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Lopez also had a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
