The Alpena High School girls basketball and hockey teams will be in action at home tonight.
The hockey team (9-8-1) will host Traverse City West at 7 p.m. at Northern Lights Arena. The game will be a Purple Game in support of awareness of cancers of all kinds. Fundraisers will be held during the game and all proceeds will benefit the ARMC Cancer Center and Friends Together of Alpena. Fans are encouraged to wear purple to show their support.
The Wildcats have had a few cancelations in the last week, but they'll be looking to make up for a less than stellar performance last weekend against Traverse City Central; a game in which they managed just seven shots on goal and watched goaltender Jesse Boilore make 64 saves.
The Alpena girls basketball team (3-6, 3-3 Big North) will host Tawas at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats have also been hit with cancelations and rescheduled dates. The Wildcats haven't played since last Thursday; a game where they beat Traverse City Central 52-42.
After a slow start, the Wildcats have caught fire as of late and have won three of their last four games. Adrianna Hatch leads Alpena offensively with 11 points per game and Emma Strong and Elizabeth Trelfa are the Wildcats' leading rebounders at 10.1 and 9 rebounds a game respectively.
