Alpena girls pick up third win against Traverse?City?Central

TRAVERSE CITY-The Alpena girls basketball team picked up its third win on Thursday, downing Traverse City Central 52-42.

"It was another good defensive effort. I thought we built up a lot on the things we did against Ogemaw and did some good things offensively," Alpena coach Dan Arsenault said.

Adrianna Hatch led Alpena with 16 points. Alexis Smith had nine points, six assists and four rebounds while Emma Strong had four points and 13 rebounds.

"We're pretty happy with the win. It's a good feeling any time you can come back from Traverse City with a win," Arsenault said.

Alpena's freshman team won 45-35. Jasmyn Schultz led with 22 points while Katherine Mack had eight. The Wildcats' junior varsity team lost 47-43. Mykayla Price and Jessica Marwede had 10 a piece.

Alpena hosts Gaylord on Monday.

Rogers City 47,

Pickford 31

ROGERS CITY-The Rogers City girls basketball team added another win to already solid season with a 47-31 victory over Pickford on Thursday.

"The girls came out really good on defense. They made their lay-ups real well and played especially good in the third quarter. So far, this is a team that plays well i the second half and hopefully we can keep it up," Rogers City coach Gary Bisson said.

The first quarter ended with Rogers City up 11-6. It held off a Pickford comeback in the second quarter to end the first half up 25-19.

It limited Pickford to 12 points for the rest of the game, leading 32-25 after three quarters.

Rogers City was led by Courtney Streich with 15 points. Logan Fleming scored 11 points and had nine steals.

Rogers City hosts Hillman tonight.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Posen 63, Fairview 46

FAIRVIEW-The Posen boys basketball team improved its record to 9-2 on Thursday by beating the Fairview Eagles 63-46.

Posen led by a tight 18-12 score after one quarter, but gradually pulled to a 34-21 lead at the half. The Vikings continually pulled ahead throughout the third quarter, ending it with a 49-30 lead.

"We wore them down. They only have seven players on the team, but they're a good team with tough players," Posen coach Matt Ponik said.

Nick Hincka led Posen with 22 points. Travis Sharpe had 18 and Leon Beccard had 12.

Fairview was led by Hudson Szubelak with 22 points. Austin Handrich had 11.

Atlanta 56, Hale 42

ATLANTA-The Atlanta boys basketball team beat Hale 56-42 in front of a home town crowd on Thursday.

Atlanta led 11-5 after the first quarter and pulled into a 26-12 lead at the half. It extended its lead to 42-22 after three quarters, with Hale finally outscoring Atlanta in the last quarter.

Josh Barrett and Jacob Chambers led Atlanta with 11 points. Taylor Juergens added 10.

Kelly Chrivia scored 14 for Hale.

Atlanta hosts Rogers City next Friday.

Mio 61,

Whittemore-Prescott 29

MIO The Mio boys basketball team picked up another win on Thursday in a 61-29 rout of Whittemore-Prescott.

Mio (8-1) led 18-3 after one quarter and 34-13 at the half. It added 20 points in the third quarter to go up 54-22.

Ben Lubitz led Mio with 27 points. Bryce DeGrammont had 14 and Seth Thomey had 10.

Jens Gillings led Whittemore with 13 points, followed by Jose Rodriquez with 10.

Mio travels to Hale on Tuesday.

Bellaire 66, Onaway 34

BELLAIRE-The Onaway boys basketball team picked up its second loss of the season in a 66-34 loss to?Bellaire.

Onaway (7-2, 5-1 Ski?Valley) fell behind 18-7 in the first quarter and 29-16 at the half.

It caught up a little in the third quarter with a 49-30 spread, but couldn't make up the difference.

Joe O'Bradovich led with nine points while?Carlos?Bautista had seven points and nine rebounds.

"They're not 30 points better than us, but they were tonight. We had some good work in the third and fourth quarter, but just couldn't get it done,"?Onaway coach Eddy?Szymoniak said.

Onaway travels to Johannesburg on Wednesday.

Alcona 65, Oscoda 46

OSCODA-The Alcona boys basketball team picked up another win on Thursday with a 65-46 victory over Oscoda.

Alcona (5-4) was led by Trenton Lavergne with 27 points.

Carson Jamieson, Dawson Forsythe, and Brandon Smigelski added eight points a piece.

Alcona hosts Fairview on Tuesday.
