ONAWAY-The Onaway girls basketball team gave Johannesburg-Lewiston all it could handle on Wednesday, but fell just short and lost 55-48 in a Ski Valley Conference game.
Devin Bristley had 19 points and 12 rebounds for Onaway (6-6, 4-5) and Lexi Szymoniak had 10 points and 14 rebounds.
"I'm exceptionally proud of how we played tonight. Everybody knows how good Joburg is and we took it right to the wire tonight," Onaway coach Marty Mix said. "I can't even walk away disappointed. We got beat by a good team."
Joburg led 48-38 after three quarters and led by as many as 14 in the fourth quarter. Onaway cut the lead to six, but couldn't pull any closer.
Maddie Showerman led Joburg with 18 points and Brittney Cherwinski added 12 points.
Joburg led 15-11 after one quarter, but Onaway battled back to tie the game 29-29 at halftime.
Erika Price added 10 points for Onaway and Jade Galer had 13 rebounds.
Onaway will host Central Lake on Tuesday in its annual Maris Spaulding Game, a game which honors a former Central Lake athlete who passed away from cancer.
Hillman 63, Atlanta 10
ATLANTA-Jensen Tchorzynski scored 22 points and the Hillman girls basketball team improved to 4-5 with a 63-10 win over Atlanta on Wednesday.
Hillman led 16-1 after one quarter and 43-1 at halftime.
Lacey Ferguson led Atlanta with five points.
Hillman plays at Rogers City on Friday.
Rogers City wins twice at home
ROGERS CITY-The Rogers City wrestling team earned a win during a home quad on Wednesday, topping Gaylord's B-team 48-21 and Rudyard 48-15.
Double winners for Rogers City were Justin Saile (125), Noah Sobeck (130), Cam Urban (135), Jake Sobeck (145), Austin Bober (160), Jared LaFleche (171) and Andrew Selke (215).
Single winners for Rogers City were Tommy Vogelheim (103), Tristan Baller (112), Cole Henry (140) and Jack Ryan (152).
Rogers City (24-6) will take part in the Northern Michigan Championships in Gaylord on Saturday.
