FAIRVIEW-The Mio boys basketball team picked up another win on Monday, beating the Fairview Eagles 59-37.
Mio (7-1) took a 19-10 lead after the first quarter and held the Eagles scoreless in the second to take a 29-10 lead into the third quarter. It pulled into a 44-22 lead before ending the game up 59-37.
Ben Lubitz led Mio with 29 points while Aaron Georgieff scored 12. Hudson Szubelak scored 14 points for Fairview while Austin Handrich scored 12.
Mio hosts Whittemore-Prescott on Thursday while Fairview hosts Posen.
Rogers City 51
PICKFORD-The Rogers City boys basketball team came within five points of leading Pickford on Monday, but suffered a 63-51 loss.
"We missed a lot of easy ones today," Rogers City coach Jesse Streich said.
Rogers City trailed 19-11 after the first quarter and went into the second half behind by only 35-30. However, it scored only five in the second as Pickford pulled away to a 49-35 lead.
"We ran out of steam in the third quarter and the game really got away from us there. The guys had a great second quarter and hopefully we can maintain that in the future," Streich said.
Alex Hincka led Rogers City with 20 points and 10 rebounds, picking up a double-double. Chris Lopez had 16 points and nine rebounds.
Rogers City travels to Hillman on Thursday.
WOLVERINE-Lexi Szymoniak had a double-double and the Onaway girls basketball team improved to 6-5 with a 53-17 win over Wolverine on Monday.
Szymoniak scored 20 points for the Cardinals and added 18 rebounds. Erika Price chipped in with 15 points, all of them coming on three-pointers.
Onaway led 26-9 at halftime and 31-13 after three quarters.
The Cardinals host Johannesburg-Lewiston on Wednesday.
