TRAVERSE CITY-The Alpena Street Cats came up just short on the back end of a home-and-home series with the Traverse City Hounds, losing 3-2 on Saturday at Centre Ice Arena.
Cam Fisher scored at the 13:27 mark of the third period and the Hounds hung on until the end to strength their lead in the Midwest Junior Hockey League standings.
The Hounds lead the league with 51 points, well ahead of the second-place Soo Firehawks. Alpena remains in fourth place with 26 points.
Alpena (13-13) held a 2-1 lead entering the third period, but Traverse City scored the last two goals to win the game. Kevin Miloser knotted the game at 6:40 before Fisher scored his game-winner.
Savelii Skurikhin scored on the power-play for Alpena and Vladimir Mokrousov scored the game's first goal, giving Alpena a 1-0 lead 37 seconds into the game.
Pavel Bocharov and Edgar Kharlamov each had an assist for the Street Cats and Aleksandr Shishkin made 23 saves.
Alpena will host the Berkley Bruins this weekend for a three-game series beginning on Friday at 7 p.m.
