Alpena boys pick up second win; Rogers City snaps losing streak; Bellaire tops Hillman

ELK?RAPIDS-?The Alpena boys added another "W" to its win column on Friday with a 63-52 victory.

"We struggled a bit at the start. We hadn't played in a long time, but we really came to life in the last two quarters,"?Alpena coach John?Pintar said.

Alpena (2-1) was down 17-12 by the end of the first and tied it up 27-27 at the half.

The third quarter saw the Wildcats take a 48-44 lead. Alpena held Elk Rapids to six in the fourth for the win.

Andy Marwede picked up a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Tyler?Pintar threw down 20 points while Nick?Skiba had seven.

Elk Rapids was led by Cole Walker with 23 points.

Alpena travels to Gaylord on Tuesday.

The JV team also picked up its second win of the season with a 47-29 win. Kaleb Myers hit 14 points while Joe?Ayala had 12.

Rogers City 53,

Inland Lakes 50

INDIAN?RIVER-The Rogers City Boys had a big night on Friday, snapping a 27 game losing streak by beating Inland?Lakes.

"It was so nice to finally get that monkey off our backs. For some of these boys, its their first varsity basketball win,"?Rogers City?coach?Jesse Streich said.

The Hurons led 12-9 after one and held onto a 24-22 lead at the half.

It extended its lead 41-32 at the end of the third and held off an Inland Lake run in the fourth for the win.

Alex Hincka and Chris Lopez both scored 19 points.

Rogers City hosts Alcona on Thursday.

Bellaire 59,?

Hillman 50

BELLAIRE-The Hillman boys basketball team suffered its first loss on Friday against Bellaire, 59-50.

Bellaire is currently ranked sixth in the state and is undefeated at 4-0.

"It was a good, solid opponent for us. We stayed pretty close till they had a run at the end and we just couldn't recover," Hillman head coach Eric Muszynski said.

Hillman led 8-7 after the first half and trailed 25-24 at the half.

It led 38-33 by the end of the third, but was outscored 26-12 in the fourth quarter.

"It got so we had to start fouling them and they hit seven out of eight at the line in the fourth," Muszynski said.

Hillman was led by Brendan Zimmer with 13 points. Mason?VanPamel had 11 points and nine rebounds. Ty Jones had 10 points and Dylan Ross had eight rebounds.

Bellaire was led by James Schrader with 23 points.

Hillman is now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the North Star Conference. It travels to?Posen on Monday.
