ATLANTA-The Mio Thunderbolts took quick control of the Atlanta Huskies on Thursday, winning 54-27.
Mio (4-0) led Atlanta (1-3) 16-7 in the first quarter and expanded its lead to 25-17 by the half. It then outscored the Huskies 19-6 in the third for a 44-23 lead going into the fourth.
Ben Lubitz put down 27 for Mio while Taylor Juergens led Atlanta with 10 points.
Atlanta hosts Central Lake tonight while Mio hosts AuGres Monday, January 6th.
Gaylord Saint Mary 41
ONAWAY-The Onaway boys basketball team took quick control of its match up against Gaylord Saint Mary on Thursday, winning 68-41.
Onaway (2-1) took a 25-8 lead in the first that it stretched to a 50-21 lead by the half.
The Cardinals defense held St. Mary scoreless for the third to take a 64-21 lead.
"This was one of the best basketball games I've ever been a part of. They played extremely well as a team and the defense was great. They moved the ball around extremely well," Onaway coach Eddy Szymoniak said.
Onaway was 50 percent at the line, hitting eight of 16.
They travel to Rogers City tonight.
SAGINAW-The Alpena wrestling team went 0-2 at the Saginaw Swan Valley Duels on Wednesday.
The Wildcats lost their first dual against Millington 51-21. Winning for Alpena were: Jacob Pilarski (103) by void, Daron Mathia (130) by decision, TJ Thao (160) by void and Austin Hawks (285) by pin.
In its second dual, Alpena lost North Branch 44-22. Winning for Alpena were Pilarski by void, Danielle Weekes (119) by decision, Emry Zarins (145) by technical fall, Dakota Patterson (160) by fall, Felix Suszek (215) by fall and Hawks by fall.
On Saturday at the Caro Invite, RJ Centala took first at 145 pounds, Patterson took fifth at 160 pounds and Suszek took fourth at 285 pounds.
Alpena doesn't wrestle again until the Bill Barrett Duals in Rogers City on December 28th.
