CADILLAC-Ryan Morse scored 30 seconds into overtime and the Cadillac hockey team topped Alpena 2-1 on Friday in a Big North Conference game.
After two scoreless periods, Cadillac got on the board first with a goal 2:30 into the final frame. Alpena struck back 19 seconds later when Brody Nowak scored with assists from Cade MacArthur and Cole Cosbitt.
"These were the best three periods of hockey we've played so far. Cadillac is a really good team," Alpena coach Pete Doubek said. "It was really close; we hit crossbars and all kinds of stuff."
Alpena goalie Jesse Boilore had another solid outing, finishing with 38 saves.
After the Wildcats took a penalty, Morse scored to give Cadillac the win.
Alpena (2-4) has lost four straight since winning the Huron Shores Tourament to open the season and hosts Petoskey tonight at 7 p.m.
Posen 63, Hillman 28
POSEN-Korynn Hincka scored 33 points and the Posen girls basketball team coated in its North Star League opener, beating Hillman 63-28.
The win is Posen's 49th straight in conference play.
Posen (2-0) used its full-court press to jump out to a 23-6 lead after one quarter and led 38-16 at halftime.
"Hincka was dominating and we got a chance to work all of our players in," Posen coach Karl Momrik said.
Jenna Hincka added eight points for Posen and Jensen Tchorzynski led Hillman (0-1) with 15.
Posen will try for its 50th straight league win on Tuesday at Whittemore-Prescott.
Joburg 56, Onaway 29
JOHANNESBURG-A 20-4 third-quarter run proved to be more than enough to push Johannesburg-Lewiston past the Onaway girls basketball team 56-29 on Friday in a Ski Valley Conference matchup.
Onaway (0-2, 0-1 SV) trailed 20-15 at halftime, but Joburg took control from there and led 40-19 after three quarters.
"It was an improvement from the first game and the girls played well, but that 20-4 run hurt us," Onaway coach Marty Mix said.
Erika Price led Onaway with nine points and Morganne Badgero added eight.
Onaway plays at Gaylord St. Mary on Friday.
Rogers City 45, Fairview 27
FAIRVIEW-The Rogers City girls basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season after beating Fairview 45-27 on Friday.
Logan Fleming led the Hurons (2-0) with 12 points, Cassidy Purgiel added eight and Courtney Streich had seven. Alexa Quaine added seven points and 10 rebounds.
Rogers City led 21-15 at the half and 28-19 after three quarters before pulling away with a 17-8 run in the fourth quarter.
Logan Winton led Fairview (0-2) with 11 points.
Arenac Eastern 61,
TWINING-Arenac Eastern held off a double-double from Karina Cole and used a 17-9 run in the second quarter to pull away from Alcona on the way to a 61-56 win on Friday.
"Arenac got us tonight as they were the better team," Alcona coach Brad Cole said. "They are well coached and a diverse team."
Karina scored 21 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and added six assists and four steals, but it wasn't enough for the Tigers (1-2).
With the game tied at 15 after one quarter, Arenac outscored Alcona 17-9 in the second quarter for a 32-24 halftime lead.
Arenac led 39-32 after three quarters and kept pace with Alcona in the final quarter to come away with the win.
Megan Quick added 13 points, three assists and five steals for Alcona. Kendra Cole had nine points and four rebounds.
