Alpena native Yates wins three national running titles

Alpena native Michele Yates (nee Suszek) is a highly successful competitive runner and 2013 was one of her best years yet.

She competed in seven different races and won three national titles for the year.

Yates has won a total of four national titles as a runner.

Her biggest title win came on?November 9th in Boulder City, Nevada in the USA 50K championships.

Yates winning time of 4:19.50 broke the old course record by more than 34 minutes.

"I feel so blessed,"?she said.

Yates time was strong enough to not only win the female race, but to put her at 12th place overall.

Yates win of the year was on January 12th in the Bandera 100K USA 100K trail championship.

She won the female division with a time of 10:08.48.

Yates next race was on March 2nd in the Nueces 50 Mile USA 50 Mile Championship.

Yates finished first in the female division and was fourth overall with a time of 6:52.25.

This time set a new record for the course.

Her next race took place on April 21 in the Indiana Trail 100 mile race.

Yates not only finished first place in the female division, but first place overall with a time of 17:35.

This time was good enough to set a new course record.

Yates then competed in the World Championships IAU in July against hundreds of racers from around the world.

Although she was fighting an injury, Yates came in 103rd.

Her finish helped the USA score in the World Championships?IAU for the first time as a team.

Her next race was on September 14th in the Run?Rabbit Run 100 mile race.

Yates picked up another first place finish in the female division and a seventh overall placement with a time of 20:16:54.

Once again, Yates time was quick enough to break the old course record.

"I beat a very elite field of women," she said.

Two weeks later, on September 28th, Yates competed in the Ultra Race of Champions, a world championship race.

She came in third in the female division and placed 19th overall with a time of 12:46:24.
