ROGERS CITY - The Michigan State Police and Presque Isle County Sheriff's Department are asking for the public's help to locate a man who went missing in Presque Isle County on Sunday.
Forty-seven year old Michael Schepke left his residence at 3454 Birchwood Drive and was last seen walking on Birchwood Drive, near Morrill Road around 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. He is wearing black jeans, a dark navy blue coat, navy blue sweatshirt and a black baseball cap with an eagle on it and the wording "Alaska." He is around 6'1" and weighs about 175 to 180 pounds, wears glasses and has brown hair and a mustache. Police say he is mentally handicapped and diabetic and needs his medication.
"We're still looking for clues," Presque Isle County Sheriff Bob Paschke said. "We have another search team doing grid-work and trying to find something to help locate him. He usually walks Birchwood Drive north about a mile or mile and a half, so that is mainly where we are concentrating."
Schepke regularly went on walks, but had always returned within a couple of hours. Authorities have been searching the area since 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon and are continuing to do so.
Area search and rescue teams, including the Thunder Bay Area Fire Fighters, several Presque Isle County Fire Departments, Sheriff's Office, the Alpena County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team, Michigan State Police, K-9 Teams from across the state and a Coast Guard helicopter continue searching.
Police are asking the public to contact Presque Isle Central Dispatch at 734-2156, or Michigan State Police Alpena Post at 354-4101 if they have any information.
