Three Alcona townships face school millages

October 29, 2013

In Alcona County, school millage and bond issues will be on the ballot in Curtis, Mikado and Mitchell townships Tuesday for the Oscoda and Fairview school districts.

Polls will be open to registered voters 7 a.m.-8 p.m., Alcona County officials said.

In Mitchell Township, the Fairview School District is asking voters to approve a general obligation unlimited tax bond proposal not to exceed $835,000 for school, bus and technology improvements.

The amount will be funded by a 0.61 millage increase, which would replace the current 2.1 mill rate December 2014, Fairview Superintendent Robert Ricketson said.

For residents who own a home assessed at around $50,000, this would equal $30.50 in annual property taxes, down from $105 in previous years.

The polling place is located at Mitchell Township Hall, 6849 W. Tower Road, Curran, according to the Alcona County clerk's office.

A full text of that ballot proposal can be seen at the administrative offices of Fairview Area Schools, 1879 E. Miller Road, Fairview, or call 848-7000. Information also is available at the township clerk's office.

In Curtis and Mikado townships, voters will decide on an Oscoda Area School District millage. They will be asked to support a sinking fund for building and site purposes in the amount of one mill for seven years. That equals about $50 in additional property taxes on a home assessed at $50,000.

The money is earmarked for construction or repair of school buildings, and the total raised the first year would be $582,675, officials said.

A full text of the ballot proposal can be obtained at the administrative offices of the Oscoda Area Schools, 3550 River Road, Oscoda or call 739-2033. Information also is available at the township clerk's office.

Polling places for registered voters are located at Curtis Township Hall 4932 F-30, Glennie; Greenbush Township Hall, 5037 Campbell Road, Greenbush, and Mikado Township Hall 2291 S. F-41, Mikado.
