WHITTEMORE-The Posen volleyball team improved to 7-3 in North Star League play with a three-set sweep of Whittemore-Prescott on Thursday, 25-9, 25-22 and 25-22.
"The girls came out in the first set and the communication was great," Posen coach Michelle Mulka said. "Whittemore had some really good spikes and really good coverage on some of our spikes."
Korynn Hincka had eight kills, four blocks and five aces for Posen; Ashley Meyers added five aces and five digs and Mercedes Kowalski chipped in with 13 assists and three aces.
Posen is 12-5 overall and hosts Onaway and Rogers City at 5 p.m. on Wednesday for the Presque Isle Championship.
Hillman 3, Au Gres 1
HILLMAN-Jensen Tchorzynski had 14 kills to go with 14 digs and the Hillman volleyball team defeated Au Gres in four sets on Thursday, 16-25, 25-21, 25-23 and 25-23.
"They were very close," Hillman coach Amy Moir said.
Kalen Tchorzynski added eight kills and eight digs for Hillman, Alissa Jones had seven digs and Julia Hunt also played a good match for the Tigers.
Hillman returns to action next Saturday in the North Star League Tournament in Rogers City.
Rogers City 3, Mio 0
ROGERS CITY-The Rogers City volleyball team swept Mio on Thursday 25-8, 25-12 and 25-12.
"We did really well in serving. We didn't pass as well, but I was really impressed by setter Cassie Brege and how she turned so many of those passes into hittable serves," Rogers City coach Jackie Quaine said.
Brege had 27 assists and seven digs. Sarah Meredith led offensively with 12 kills while Courtney Streich had seven. Alexa Quaine had five kills and eight digs while Megan Quaine had 18 digs.
Cassidy Purgiel had 11 aces for the night while Kayla Fleury had seven digs.
Rogers City (30-8-1, 10-0 North Star League) plays in the Presque Isle Championship with Onaway and Posen in Posen on Wednesday.
