Our wonderful County Library is requesting a "yes" vote on their proposed millage request. Our family moved to Alpena in the early 1970s. One of the first things I did was get a library card. At the time our Library was located in an older building on Second Ave. right next to the river. The Library moved to its current location and grew and expanded as did our family. All 10 of our children loved going to the Library and we took advantage of all the wonderful programs and activities the Library had to offer.
The Library is one of the most important cultural centers of our town. The programs they present enrich our lives and add to our knowledge. Books, DVDs, CDs, tutoring, free computer use and computer classes are there for every person in Alpena to enjoy and utilize.
I have always been impressed with the friendly staff and the great support they offer. Over the years, I have been involved with the programs and activities that Mary Clute, the Children's Librarian, have presented for children from toddlers to teens. My Girl Scout troops have volunteered at many functions and have grown in their leadership skills with Mary Clute's mentoring.
Please go to the polls on Nov. 5 and vote "yes" on the proposed millage for Alpena County Library.
