Alcona runs by Hale 62-0 ; Hillman wins homecoming game

HALE-Garrette Norling set a new career record for tackles and the Alcona football team earned its seventh straight win after defeating Hale 62-0 on Friday.

Norling had nine tackles to become Alcona's career leader in tackles.

Josh Mead led the Tigers (7-0) offensively with 143 yards on six carries and three touchdowns. Nathan Fettes had six carries for 84 yards and two scores. Cody Franklin threw passing touchdowns of 35 and 49 yards and added a 27-yard rushing touchdown.

Norling added 81 yards on four carries.

Alcona plays at Manton next Friday.

HILLMAN-Mike Klein had a career night and the Hillman football team won its homecoming game on Friday against Oscoda 58-22.

Klein scored four touchdowns on the night after he ran for a score, caught a touchdown pass and returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

"The boys played well. All the young guys got to play," Hillman coach Bill Koenig said. "I'm happy with the way we came out and played after we got our butts kicked by Atlanta."

Ty Jones was 10-of-12 passing for 180 yards and five touchdowns. Travis Powers had four catches for 71 yards and two scores and Mason VanPamel had three catches for 58 yards and two scores.

Hillman is 4-3 and plays at Whittemore-Prescott next week.

Whittemore-Prescott 44,

Rogers City 6

WHITTEMORE-The Whittemore-Prescott football team took a 16-0 lead after one quarter against Rogers City on Friday and never looked back, defeating the Hurons 44-6.

Jens Gillings was 4-of-6 through the air for the Cardinals and threw two touchdown passes. Blake Liddell also threw for a touchdown.

Travis MacDonald was on the receiving end of all three passing scores and finished with 82 yards on three catches.

Whittemore added 14 points in the second quarter for a 30-0 halftime lead.

Quintin Kelly scored for Rogers City on a run in the third quarter. He was 9-of-23 on the night for 71 yards and four interceptions.

Chris Lopez had three catches for 27 yards.

Offensively, Whittemore outgained the Hurons (4-3) on the ground 258-12 and had a possession time of nearly 30 minutes.

JoBurg 32, Onaway 14

JOHANNESBURG-The Onaway football team fell out of playoff contention with a 32-14 loss against Johannesburg-Lewiston on Friday.

Carlos Bautista threw a touchdown pass to Tommy Auger and caught a touchdown pass.

Onaway (2-5) trailed 14-0 at halftime.

"We were in it until the beginning of the fourth quarter. The guys just got tired," Onaway coach Jim Cleaver said.
