Alcona pounds Oscoda; Atlanta tops Hillman

OSCODA-Alcona extended their winning streak to 6-0 on Friday after a big 63-10 win against Oscoda.

Alcona started slow in the first quarter, leading only 7-0. However, by the end of the half the Tigers were up 43-8.

The Tigers scored 14 points in the third quarter to take a 57-8 lead. Overall, Alcona racked up 550 yards of offense.

Nathan Fettes led his team offensively with 220 yards on eight carries, three rushing touchdowns and one 10-yard reception. Josh Mead picked up 143 yards on six carries and two rushing touchdowns. Cosy Franklin was 3-for-3 in passing with 86 yards and two touchdown pass. Garret Norling had two rushing touchdowns and led team in tackles.

Alcona plays at Hale next Friday.

ATLANTA-Atlanta (3-3) got back to the .500 mark on homecoming night, defeating Hillman (3-3) 40-14 on Friday.

"We didn't play to our potential," Hillman coach Bill Koenig said. "Atlanta, it was their homecoming night, they came out fired up and never let up."

Koenig praised the efforts of linemen David Julka and Kyle Henigan in the loss.

Onaway 25, Pellston 0

ONAWAY-The Onaway football team scored 25 unanswered points to defeat Pellston 25-0 on Friday in a Ski Valley Conference game.

Chris Cleaver and Joe O'Bradovich each had a receiving touchdown for Onaway (2-4) and Jamal Porter and Carlos Bautista each had a rushing touchdown.

"It feels good," Onaway coach Jim Cleaver said of the win. "When they come out and play to win, they can beat anybody."

BOYS SOCCER

Tawas 5, Alpena 0

TAWAS-The Alpena boys soccer team lost 5-0 to Tawas on Friday.

We were outworked, outmuscled and outscored," Alpena coach Tim Storch said. "We played really good game on Thursday did not follow it up tonight."

Alpena hosts Oscoda at 5 p.m. on Monday.

VOLLEYBALL

Rogers City 3, Hale 0

HALE-The Rogers City volleyball team (18-7-1, 4-0 North Star League) picked up another conference win on Thursday, taking out Hale in three sets, 25-17, 25-12 and 25-8.

Jenna Tulgetske led the Hurons offensively with 12 kills while Cassidy Purgiel had five kills and five aces. Cassie Brege pitched in offensively with 23 assists.

The Hurons hope to stay undefeated in the North Star League on Tuesday when they host Posen.
