WEST BRANCH-Peter Guest scored a hat trick and the Alpena boys soccer team snapped a four-game losing streak in conference play with a 5-1 win over Ogemaw Heights on Thursday.
Goals from Guest, Zack Kendziorski and Mitchell Day gave Alpena (6-9-1, 3-7 Big North) a 3-0 lead at the half and the Wildcats kept control from there.
"(The win is) a by-product of our schedule. We've had two four-game losing streaks where we play the two Traverse City's and Petoskey and then we go on a winning streak," Alpena coach Tim Storch said.
Two more goals from Guest before the midway point of the second half gave Storch the chance to give some backups a significant amount of playing time.
Ogemaw's only goal came midway through the second half on a penalty kick.
Willie Santos Perez had two assists and Kendziorski and Jacob Kozlowski each had one.
Alpena plays at Tawas today at 4 p.m.
