The City of Alpena and the Department of Public Works Local 139 of the United Steelworkers of America have reached agreement on a new two-year contract. The term of the new agreement is July 1 through June 30, 2015.
The highlights of the new agreement are a wage increase of 1.5 percent for each year of the contract, a cafeteria plan for health insurance with an increased cost share, a reduction in deferred compensation for each year of the contract, and a slight increase in the employee's clothing allowance.
In a press release, the city expressed appreciation to the Department of Public Works Local 139 for working with the city to control costs in these trying financial times. Negotiations began in February and were completed by the end of May.
